Throughout his Paralympic career, he represented top brands with authenticity and empathy, this experience in engaging diverse stakeholders, building trust, and fostering long-term relationships is invaluable in the medical device industry. His proven ability to advocate and negotiate on behalf of brands and teams will make him a strong asset.
An experienced public speaker, he has honed exceptional communication skills, tailoring messages to varied audiences, all critical skills for success in medical sales.
With a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science and certification from the Medical Sales Academy Foundation Course, he brings a solid foundation in science and medical sales principles. His technical knowledge, coupled with his transferable skills, makes him well-prepared to navigate the complexities of the medical device industry.
As a UK Sport-funded athlete, he earned two European medals and achieved a top 10 world ranking in Paralympic table tennis. Beyond his athletic achievements, he has been a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusivity, serving as a spokesperson for THE BRITISH PARALYMPIC ASSOCIATION . His leadership in mentoring new athletes and advocating for cultural change demonstrates his ability to inspire and lead.
We asked Ashley about his motivations and experience. Here’s what he had to say:
Question: Why did you choose a career in the medical device industry?
“I have always struggled as an athlete to figure out what my career would look like after sport. As an athlete, you carry a lot of values and set high expectations for yourself. The way you psychologically calculate situations and manage your mannerisms is different. In both sports and the medical device industry, there are many similar attributes—high-pressure environments, dynamic situations, resilience, networking, and people skills—all working toward a common goal. I love helping people, and the medical device industry can be very rewarding. My background is in sports science, and I hope to evolve my knowledge in the medtech industry.”
Question: How did you hear about our course?
“I heard about the course through a company called Ortho Consulting Group, and was referred by FutureProof Pro.”
Question: What was your feedback on our course, ‘Introduction to Medical Device Sales’?
“The course provided a good insight into the medical device world. It guides you in the right direction to see if medtech is for you, and then you can expand your knowledge through more individual learning, like I have done myself. I know I am at the early stages of my medical device career, but I am eager to gain knowledge, experience, and shadow as much as possible. So, when the time comes to hang up my bat for the scrubs, I know I will be in a good place.”
Having completed our Medical Sales Academy Introduction to Medical Device Sales Course, he is now actively seeking opportunities to begin his career in medical device sales. He is actively looking for a full-time position but is also keen for any shadowing opportunities to gain hands-on experience in the industry.
